Perry Square Utility Boxes
Flourish is a body of work created as a metaphor for the City of Erie. This public art project was aimed at brightening the area near Perry Square in Erie, PA. It was made possible by Erie Arts and Culture Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, Erie Downtown Development Corporation, and the City of Erie
“Time and patience is required before anything can truly flourish. This is evident in nature during the spring and summer seasons. Spring signals the end of the bitter cold winter and the beginning of new growth unto summer. This metaphor applies to Erie’s past, present, and future. While honoring the past is very important for many people, it’s just as important to shift our focus towards the future. In keeping with tradition, many of the trees depicted in this artwork represent Erie’s historical identity. Change can be unsettling for some but it’s inevitable for everyone. The past has shaped Erie in many ways, but having a positive attitude towards the future is necessary in order to achieve any goals we have set out.”
